Credibility trumps skill

So there is a paradox to be credible you have to be good, have a good track record and have x.

I think x maybe personality or opportunity or relationship or novelty or third party commentary...

I watched "the kick" last night which is a story about Stephen Donald. He was (is) an outstanding rugby player who happened to be competing against Dan Carter. Why did Donald’s credibility get such a thrashing for a couple of outcomes that with calm thought were a normal part of the game and actually the result reflected worse on his mates than him. I don't know - who can understand the tide of public opinion?

What it does emphasise is that "time and season" seems to mean that the mix between capability, history and x varies.
